We are a normal GP practice, looking after public and private patients.

We are 2 doctors, myself and Dr Sinead Beirne, and a nurse (my Mrs Caitriona O’Sullivan, who is practice nurse, midwife, breastfeeding support etc). We share 3 reception staff with the other GP practice.

We provide the full range of GP services, from cradle to grave, including maternity care, cervical screening, childhood and travel vaccination, contraception, health screening, ECG, lung function testing, chronic illness care, blood tests, repeat prescriptions and so on, but we also have some specialized services that are not commonly found in most practices:

  • Minor surgery procedures, from ingrown toenails and cysts to moles and skin cancers, wart freezing etc. We take referrals from all over Dublin and carry out approx. 700 procedures annually
  • We provide ultrasound scanning, including general abdominal scanning, assessment of prostate, aorta, gallstones, uterus, and pregnancy scanning.
  • As a result, we have an extensive maternity practice, participate in shared antenatal care with the hospital, offer midwife care and provide comprehensive breastfeeding support for new parents.
  • We combine ultrasound and surgical skills to find and remove contraceptive implants that get lost in people’s arms
  • We have substantial expertise in diabetes care.

Stoicism is a philosophy that helps people to live their ‘best life’. It aims to inspire positive emotions, diminish negative emotions and sharpen character virtues. During our current situation of dealing with a worldwide lifechanging pandemic, Stoic philosophy offers encouraging reference points for responding to challenges. It’s wise words can make us reflect on what is valuable in the midst of strife. There are an abundance of suggestions on how to strengthen our character and state of wellbeing through taking charge of our thoughts and perceptions. I’ve gathered here a selection of inspiring quotes from the Stoic School of philosophy to reflect on.   “The happiness of your life depends upon the quality of your thoughts.” Marcus Aurelius   “Choose not to be harmed and you won’t feel harmed. Don’t feel harmed and you haven’t been.” Marcus Aurelius   “The impediment to action advances action. What stands in the way becomes the way.”

Imagine from Latin imaginari  means "to form a mental picture, picture to oneself, imagine" Reality is filtered to us through our senses and undoubtedly sight is the most immediate and informative. ‘Imaging inside’ involves an inner psychical engagement with the unique repertoire of one’s experiences. Cognitive scientists hypothesize that our ability to imagine, to come up with mental images and creative new ideas, is the result of a neural network that likely coordinates activity across multiple regions of the brain. “Creativity is the process of bringing something new into being. Creativity requires passion and commitment. It brings to our awareness what was previously hidden and points to new life. The experience is one of heightened consciousness: ecstasy.” – Rollo May, The Courage to Create  Active engagement with imagination and creative processes therefore helps us to perceive the world in new ways, to identify patterns, to make connections between ideas, objects or experiences to

You may have had this feeling at one time or another in your life that a decision you made was a mistake and that you somehow fell off track with yourself but one is never bound by past actions or choices. Consequences are born of previous thoughts or feelings and actions taken but how we approach those consequences in the moment allows us to continue in the same way or alter and move in a new direction. When disappointed by what you experience, you are presented with a moment of conflict which highlights a deep knowing inside yourself that you want change. Your actions to bring about change necessitates inner action first, to acknowledge how you want to be and make a commitment to being that. Once aligned with your goals you can transform your external circumstances in the way that you want.
